OpenWater Energy
Founded in 2019, OpenWater Energy Ltd provides expert consultancy to the Offshore Energy Industry, with a focus on three key areas:
FPSO
We are recognised experts in the FPSO sector, with experience spanning from the simple vessels of the 1990s to today’s mega-FPSOs in the Brazilian pre-salt region. Our work covers the full project lifecycle — concept development, EPCIC, vessel relocation, decommissioning, and operations & maintenance of a global FPSO fleet, and decommissioning.
FLNG
Our deep knowledge of floating systems extends to the latest generation of FLNG projects, including new builds, conversions, and a range of liquefaction technologies such as SMR, DMR, and Nitrogen Expansion. By applying the same standardisation strategies that have driven efficiency in FPSO projects, we help make FLNG projects more cost-effective and technically robust.
Renewable Energy.
Our latest R&D work includes assisting clients with the development of Green Ammonia and Green Methanol FPSO concepts and studying options for floating energy storage. We draw on our extensive experience with floating systems to ensure these new concepts are safe, robust, and deliverable. We also support our sister company, OpenWater Renewables, in the development of Floating Offshore Wind projects.

The Team
Mike Wyllie
Managing Director
Our Managing Director, Mike Wyllie, is a highly experienced Technology Director specialising in floating production systems and renewable energy. He is well known and respected in the offshore industry through his involvement in many challenging global projects for a broad range of clients over a 45-year career, and his previous work as CTO and Technology Director with two leading international contractors.
Mike has successfully used his rich FPSO experience to benefit FLNG technology, concepts and projects by leveraging the synergies between these concepts. His latest interest is to expand this transition to include Green Ammonia and Green Methanol FPSOs, as well as other offshore renewable energy projects.
Mike holds a BSc in Chemical & Process Engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK and is a Fellow of the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers.
Catherine Dewsbery
Executive Assistant / Office Manager
Our Executive Assistant and Office Manager, Catherine Dewsbery, has over 20 years of experience in providing support to top-level executives in several different fields. She has a wealth of experience, together with great enthusiasm for her role.
Since joining OpenWater Energy in 2020, Catherine has been responsible for the smooth running of the London office.
She also manages all project administration, which allows the Managing Director to focus his full attention on servicing our clients.
OWEL Associate Consultants
OpenWater Energy has a wide network of highly experienced associates and industry experts covering the key disciplines for FPSO and FLNG projects, as well as O&M, who complement our founder’s core skills. We can make these associate consultants available to work on in-house projects, or some can also be embedded into a Client’s project team for longer-term assignments. All are trusted individuals who have previously worked alongside our founder.
